PROF. ANUPAM  BASU

Professor Anupam Basu currently holds the position of Professor at the University of Burdwan, WB, India. He was also the Associate Director of National Institute of Biomedical Genomics, (NIBMG), India. Anupam conducted postdoctoral research at the Health Science Center, University of New Mexico, USA, and obtained his PhD from the National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW), New Delhi.

Professor Anupam's current research focuses on the genomics of Thalassemia and rare genetic disorders. He previously coordinated a multi-centric project, funded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT, Government of India), on the genetic profile and phenotype correlation of Thalassemia and sickle cell anemia. Presently, his team has developed a genomics panel for Thalassemia, specifically targeting mutation hot spots of the Beta Globin gene within the Indian population. They have also created a field-based Thalassemia carrier screening kit for point-of-care centers, funded by BIRAC, Government of India. This is also under IPR /patent Furthermore, his team is actively engaged in research on the genomics profile of rare disorders.
